Scuba Diving and Snorkeling in the Caribbean Sea

Start Your Adventure at the Luna Blue.   Playa del Carmen offers an amazing array of fascinating activities, adventures and daytrips. At the Luna Blue Hotel we will help you locate the tours and day trips best suited to your interests and pocketbook. American owners Tony and Cheri and their English speaking staff will share their extensive knowledge of the local area and the many things to do and places to go in this special paradise

Playa del Carmen sits on the Caribbean Sea in the middle of Mexico’s Mayan Riviera, famous for its hundreds of miles of pristine ocean, beaches and tropical forests. Its unique location provides visitors with a seemingly endless supply of daily adventures on the water, the beach, and in the jungle. Whatever your choice in outdoor or leisure activities, from climbing ancient pyramids to catching giant marlins or from swimming with sea turtles to parasailing above the Caribbean, you will find it here.

Diving & Snorkeling - The waters around Playa del Carmen offer a diver’s paradise. With the world's second largest coral reef just offshore, divers can easily make daily trips to explore the beauty of this natural treasure. If you've never been diving before, you can try an introductory lesson or even take a certification course from one of the many dive shops in town. If snorkeling is your preference, there are many snorkeling tours available to take you out to the reef. For those who prefer to snorkel from shore, nearby Akumal offers clear water and abundant sea life just off the beach. Both divers and snorkelers will want to explore the many cenotes (fresh water filled ponds and caves) which dot the Yucatan peninsula. And at certain times of the year visitors can even snorkel with the gentle giants of the sea, the rarely seen whale shark

Mayan Ruins in Tulum Mayan Ruins - One of the great experiences in visiting Playa Del Carmen is the chance to see ancient ruins from the great Mayan civilizations of past centuries. There are three major archeological sites near to Playa Del Carmen: Chichén Itzá, Tulum and Cobá. Each of these parks has something unique and special to offer while providing a window on an ancient and mysterious world. Here at the Luna Blue Hotel, we'll happily help you discover each of these spectacular places.

Jungle Adventure Tours - The tropical forests surrounding Playa Del Carmen are filled with exotic plants, beautiful flowers, hidden pools, wild parrots and even monkeys. Visitors can tour this amazing eco-system on foot, by riding ATVs, while racing along ziplines or even by pedaling through the jungle treetops on a special sky cycle. For the truly adventuresome, a trip can be taken to the internationally protected water and jungle preserve, the Sian Kaan Biosphere, where manatees, turtles, crocodiles and even jaguars live in their natural state.

Fishing - Since the days of Ernest Hemingway the Caribbean Sea has been legendary for its sport fishing, and nowhere in this ocean is the fishing better than off the coast of Playa Del Carmen. Local fisherman will take you in a traditional panga style boat out by the reef to fish for grouper or barracuda. If sport fishing is your preference, modern boats with professional crews will carry you in luxury to deeper waters where you can try and land some real big game: a sailfish or even the king of sport fish, a marlin!

Eco-parks - The Yucatan’s famous eco-parks of Xel-ha and Xcaret offer the experience of seeing the flora, fauna, culture and natural beauty of Mexico in a single beautiful park setting. Guests can kayak, swim with dolphins, snorkel through underground caves, get up close and personal with rare wildlife and see live world class dance and musical performances.

Sailing - The crystal clear Caribbean practically begs you to sail across its blue water. There are plenty of ways to indulge your inner sailor, from party boats to snorkel adventures and just plain sailing across the waves. You can rent a private yacht, join a local catamaran tour or take a small sailboat right off the shore in Playa.

Spas - What better way to relax on vacation than to indulge your body? At the Luna Blue Hotel you can have a massage right in your room or outside in the cenote garden in front of the waterfall. Try a sauna or a traditional Mayan temescal (sweat lodge), a manicure or pedicure, mudpacks, hot rock treatments...just about any spa experience you can imagine is available here in Playa Del Carmen.

Fitness - If you enjoy staying fit at home, there is no need to worry about missing workout time on vacation. The Evolve Health Club, just a short block away from the hotel, offers the latest in modern equipment and classes (spinning, yoga, Pilates and more) in a sparkling new setting. Guests at the Luna Blue Hotel can purchase discounted day passes for only $100 pesos. Right down the street are basketball and tennis courts as well as a modern quarter mile outdoor track, if jogging or running is your passion. For yoga enthusiasts, Yoga by the Way studio is directly across the street from the hotel.

And still more... Golf at one of the many nearby championship courses; parasail high above the beach; learn some kitesurfing; take the ferry to Cozumel island; head north for a day trip to Isla Mujeres; or just spend the day exploring Playa del Carmen at your leisure. There is something for everyone in this tropical wonderland.
